Concerning the move

Alright, so here's where updates are going to be posted, and questions will be asked.

Latest update: I've found a host, and I'm waiting for a response from mybb community concerning the js dropdown menu, and plugins. Other than that, so far, so good.

When the general appearance is finished, I'm going to make a guest account and post it here so you can see it.

Question. Is this the hosting site Icyboards, or did you move again?

It's not anything right now; it crashed.

I'm now back on the search for hosting sites that won't crash on me, but are still independent (id est, I don't have to rely on them for theme/plugins.) As far as the crashing goes, I think it might have to do with vp..but whatever.

So wait, the lazbit one crashed?? Dang...that seemed to be like a good one >_>

Have you looked into FreeMyBB? It looks pretty good...I was thinking of trying it out myself...I mean, since it was made specifically for MyBB and all (you know..I have the strangest feeling you mentioned something of that host before but I just can't remember...)

Though...I don't know how much control you have over anything...since they seem to do a lot...

Um, well actually, it was at a different website before but that site is dead..this was the best I could find. HeroOfTime used to use it (and actually we might still 0_o) and it's pretty good for a free host...according to Paul (and this was like a year ago so I don't know if it still counts) the hosting was free as long as you posted in their forums like once a month or so.

Well, freemybb really doesn't have much freedom. Thye give you plugins you can install, and themes you can install, no uploads.

I will try polar host though; right now I'm checking out phpzilla, which seems okay, but I'm a little unsure about it because it uses vista panel...and it's only been with vista panel that they crash on me.

*Edit* Ah! I've heard of post2host forums. Hmm, I think I'll try them out..I've seen a few that are interesting. Thing I like about them is that they are completely ad free.

Yea..I sort of got that feeling about FreeMyBB...I guess it's good if you don't care too much about all the freedoms but when you want to work on it yourself it kinda limits you :P

I wouldn't use phpzilla if it uses vista panel...Vista is horrible, horrible, horrible *goes off on rant about how awful vista is*

I think my only option is a post2host. I'll look at some...

*edit* Okay, I found a pretty reasonable post2host it's called "Space Socket"; rules are, 4 posts to start a forum, and a starter account costs .01 space dollars. You get .12 space dollars every post.

Which means that every post would last 12 days...which would mean around 3 posts a month..Not bad.

*edit* Spacesocket is stupid...never mind...Grr, they're insisting that I only have 2 posts when I have 4...crappy system.

Okay, can I just suggest using a site that is paid for? They can run pretty cheap and still be rather reliable.

$30 per year is a lot...I was sure you could find one for cheaper but maybe not..

Meh, anyways, they're both pretty good...I would go with the one with more space and bandwidth if you can do it though. (the mini I guess..)

Space is basically the area where your website stores content (i.e. graphics, pages, plugins, etc.) So the more content you have the more you need. If you don't have enough space then some things on your website may not display properly. For right now, 100 MB is probably good but if you're considering adding anymore features then you might want to go with 200.

Bandwidth is the amount of data visitors can store from your site. How much you need is depended on how much traffic you get and how much space your web pages are using. The more traffic and space you get the more bandwidth you need. Once you reach your limit the site may start crashing a lot and then maintenance and stuff need to be done. Or you need to get more bandwidth. 3GB is probably plenty for Spelunca in it's current stage but if we get like 10-15 more members you might want to consider trying for more.

Alrighty then, I think I'll give space socket a whirl.

Present plan, Ill go with the Mini, and if it turns out I need more, than I'll upgrade to medium (which you can do). So far Space sockt seems my best bet than.

Sounds good. You may not end up needing all that space but it's always good to have more...Because when you run out you get really big issues and then you wish you had more :P

Trying out host4post, it seems pretty good. (space socket has nobody on it, plus the forum I made won't even show up.)

Have to ask Mom about it though; they ask for an address.

Also, I can't find a host for the life of me. Host4post won't answer my questions, and spacesocket requires a bunch of complicated trash with filezilla... complicated trash that I can't figure out.

Plus, I've got an experiment on the theme to do...I think it might clean up all the glitches (apparently the theme was made on a weird program making...well, weird in some places...thing is, I love it, so I'm messing with the templates of other themes and such. derp. )
